North Split Design-Build

Project Description

The team of Corradino, HNTB, and United has been selected by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) to manage the North Split Design-Build Best Value project. The project includes total reconstruction of the I-65 and I-70 interchange in downtown Indianapolis. Full closure of this interchange during construction, and displacement of the 165,000 vehicles per day that use it, is an option being considered. The team will prepare preliminary design, a construction contract, and assist in selecting the winning Design-Build contractor. Corradino’s role for the initial phase of work includes all travel demand modeling and forecasting, traffic capacity analysis, preparation of the Interstate Access Document for Federal Highway Administration approval, coordination with the City of Indianapolis, and public outreach. This project has interesting challenges. Full or partial closure of the interchange will have significant impacts to the local roadway network. Corradino will assess these impacts and identify cost-effective countermeasures to keep traffic flowing. Corradino must also move the project forward, in a competitive bidding environment, while allowing maximum flexibility for the Design-Build contractors to provide innovative solutions that minimize cost, schedule, and local roadway impacts. This selection reflects INDOT’s trust in Corradino’s ability to handle high-profile projects. The selection allows, at INDOT’s discretion, the team to roll into final design oversight and construction inspection.
