| Aman Randhawa’s long journey to the United States was Corradino’s gain.
Aman, who is from India, always enjoyed mathematics and science courses during his high school years and gradually developed a keen interest in engineering. Aman attended Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, one of the best engineering schools in India, which was in his hometown. In his senior year at Thapar, Aman interned in transportation engineering at the Central Road Research Institute of India, where he was published in a leading research journal, not a common feat for an undergraduate in India.
Aman recognized that the U.S. had the best graduate schools for engineering in the world. So, it was an obvious choice to pursue his master’s degree in civil engineering in the states. This led to his graduate studies at Virginia Tech, where he assisted Dr.Antoine Hobeika in modeling research on TRANSIMS (Transportation Analysis and Simulation System). Aman says the lessons learned at Tech “still help me in my job every day.”
In February 2004, Aman joined Corradino as a transportation planning engineer to work as an entry-level modeler. Though he did not know much about the firm, Ken Kaltenbach, one of the premier modelers in the U.S., impressed Aman with his interesting questions during the interview. After his visit to Corradino’s Louisville office and meeting other staff, Aman knew he wanted to work at Corradino. In 2006, Aman moved to Corradino’s new Cincinnati office.
Since that time, Aman’s journey with Corradino has been paved with success. He enjoys being part of all phases of the job such as the technical work, marketing, proposal preparation, technical presentations and interviews, report writing, and other demands of the job. Aman says that during his tenure he has seen the “tremendous growth of Corradino first hand, both in terms of growth in staff, as well as areas that we work in. The modeling group now has eight full-time modelers… ” He has also witnessed the growth of new divisions like Aviation, which is also housed in the Cincinnati office.
Aman does more than modeling work. He’s also strong in the marketing field. In 2006 Aman wrote and submitted a proposal for the Virginia Department of Transportation, a new marketing area for Corradino. After being short-listed, Aman and Ken gave a presentation to the Department and landed the job – a three-year contract!
His current projects include modeling for the Orlando, Fla., Conversion and the Greater Treasure Coast Model Development.
Besides being a dedicated and highly regarded employee of Corradino, Aman finds time to share his good fortune with others. In 2005, Aman instituted a scholarship at his alma mater Thapar Institute, India, to support two under-privileged students. He personally pays full tuition for one semester for each of the two students.
In December 2006, Aman married a “beautiful girl named Nirvana,” whom he met at Virginia Tech. Nirvana works as a Design Engineer for GE (Aviation) in Cincinnati. About his family, Aman says “My parents are back home in India, and are absolutely enjoying their retired life and their newly acquired status of parents-in-law. My sister just started her graduate school at Michigan State University majoring in Hospitality Business.
