Corradino’s Ken Kaltenbach Marks 50 Years Advancing Transportation Systems Planning Nationwide
MIAMI, FL – This April, Ken Kaltenbach, P.E., celebrates a rare professional milestone: 50 years with The Corradino Group. His career has not only shaped the firm but has fundamentally influenced transportation systems planning and forecasting across the United States.
Ken joined Corradino in 1976 as the firm’s first Florida employee. Over the next five decades, he played a defining role in expanding a local presence into a nationally recognized transportation planning practice. Today, he continues to lead the division, holding active Professional Engineer licenses in nine states and supporting clients from coast to coast.
A Legacy Built on Miami’s Infrastructure
While Ken’s influence is national, his impact on South Florida’s landscape is foundational. Under his leadership, Corradino contributed to some of the most significant transit systems in the country, providing the early-stage modeling and ridership forecasting that allowed these systems to move from concept to reality.
Notable regional projects include:
- Miami Metrorail: Provided the original traffic and ridership forecasts as part of the Kaiser Transit Group, laying the groundwork for Miami’s rapid transit spine.
- Miami-Dade Onboard Transit Survey: Led large-scale data collection efforts and surveys that continue to inform how the county evaluates system performance and identifies service needs.
Beyond Florida, Ken’s team delivered critical modeling and ridership estimates for the Los Angeles Metro Red Line (from Union Station to the San Fernando Valley) and supported foundational infrastructure efforts in Dallas, Houston, San Diego, Detroit, and Austin.
National Reach, Data-Driven Results
Corradino’s Transportation Systems Planning Division operates as a national practice, supporting Departments of Transportation and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) in Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio.
The team is recognized for managing complex, custom-built travel demand models and activity-based models. By integrating emerging technologies—including artificial intelligence, web-based mapping, and interactive visualization tools—the division helps agencies prioritize multi-billion-dollar infrastructure investments with clarity and precision.
Leadership That Embraces the Future
Ken’s longevity is matched by his commitment to evolution. He has consistently pushed the division to adopt new methods, ensuring that Corradino remains at the forefront of a rapidly changing industry.
“My best advice to young staff is to embrace change,” Kaltenbach said. “If new ideas, new software, and hardware scare you, don’t come here. Look for new ideas, new methods, and make them your own. Make them work for you and for society. The good old days weren’t good; they are just old. You can honor the past, but don’t get stuck there.”
Looking Ahead
With a specialized team of 19 professionals, Corradino’s Transportation Systems Planning Division continues to advance the use of data and innovation to support the nation’s infrastructure. As Ken marks a half-century of service, the firm remains focused on delivering the insight agencies need to invest in systems that will perform for generations to come.
