Fort Lauderdale Comprehensive Planning & Streetscape Visioning

The City of Fort Lauderdale’s 20-year Comprehensive Plan update and Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR) introduced several firsts for the region—including the first Education Element focused on lifelong learning, not just public school facilities. The plan also established the City’s first Economic Development, Urban Design, and Climate Change Elements, setting a new standard for integrated, future-ready planning. In a 2024 review by Florida Sea Grant, Fort Lauderdale’s Climate Change Element and Comprehensive Plan received the highest resiliency score among all municipal plans in the state.

A separate effort helped resolve a decade-long impasse along Las Olas Boulevard, resulting in a transformative streetscape vision that supports multimodal access, vibrant placemaking, and long-term economic vitality.
