Engineering a Landmark for Miami’s Future
Corradino serves as the CEI consultant for the transformative I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project, one of the most ambitious infrastructure undertakings in South Florida. Led by FDOT District Six and the Greater Miami Expressway Agency (GMX), this project will improve regional mobility, enhance safety, and create an iconic new gateway into Downtown Miami.
The centerpiece of the project is the Signature Bridge, a six-arch cable-stayed structure that will span NE 2nd Avenue and Biscayne Blvd.—redefining the city's skyline, enhancing community spaces, and reconnecting neighborhoods. However, the full scope of the project extends far beyond the bridge itself. Notably, the project features the double-decking of SR 836, a major engineering feat that separates local and through traffic by elevating the through lanes above existing travel lanes—significantly improving traffic operations and reducing congestion.
The project also features major upgrades to both I-395 and I-95, including new ramps and bridges along I-395, new concrete pavement, and an additional northbound lane on I-95, along with multimodal improvements throughout the corridor.
CEI Highlights:
- -Full Corridor Oversight: Providing CEI services for all major project elements along I-395, SR 836, and I-95, ensuring construction excellence across multiple corridors.
- -Signature Bridge Inspection: Overseeing construction of the landmark six-arch cable-stayed bridge and related urban design elements.
- -Double-Decked SR 836: Inspecting the construction of elevated express lanes over existing SR 836, enhancing capacity and travel-time reliability.
- -Urban Reconnection: Managing construction of new community spaces, pedestrian paths, and aesthetic features beneath and around the elevated structures.
- -Multimodal Improvements: Coordinating safe access for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians throughout Downtown Miami.
- -Stakeholder Collaboration: Leading coordination efforts with FDOT, GMX, the City of Miami, and neighborhood organizations to align infrastructure delivery with community needs and goals.
